Ticino Getaway – 14-17 May 2026

Spring is approaching with great strides. It’s time to plan your Ticino getaway. Fancy hiking among chestnut trees and suspension bridges? Over four days at Ascension, we’ll hike on authentic trails through lush valleys, historic villages, and ancient forests.

Each day offers discoveries: tea tasting, suspension bridges, panoramic views — and free time to explore Locarno and Bellinzona at your own pace.

Programme of the Ticino Getaway

Day 1

Arrival at the hotel by late morning, depending on your preferred mode of transport. First immersion on the trails of Ticino: climb through a magnificent chestnut forest to the Casa del Tè on Monte Verità. Guided tour of the amazing tea plantation, followed by a tasting session. Return to the hotel and shared dinner.

Day 2

Early morning heading to Val Verzasca. Between ancient alpine huts and turquoise waters, you’ll cross the famous Lavertezzo bridge before reaching Switzerland’s former smallest commune. On the return journey, free time to stroll in Locarno. Shared dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

Heading to the heights of Bellinzona. The highlight: crossing the 270 m long Tibetan suspension bridge, suspended 130 m above the river. Late afternoon, explore Bellinzona’s old town and castles at your leisure. Shared dinner at the hotel.

→ 9 km et 700 m ascent

Day 4

Final stage of this trip, following the ruins of Roman-era castles offering exceptional views over the Maggia river and Lake Maggiore. Return to the hotel, then departure mid-afternoon.

  • This trip is suited to experienced mountain hikers comfortable with T2 trails (white-red-white markings) and without acrophobia. One hike includes crossing a suspension bridge.

• Meeting place and time:
  • At the hotel by 11:30 at the latest. The train arrives in Locarno at 11:15.

  • Please indicate your dinner preference (omnivore or vegetarian) and any food allergies upon registration.
  • Depending on group composition, a solo registrant may be accommodated in a single room (supplement payable by them).
