Immersion in the Swiss National Park – 30 July to 2 August 2026

The Swiss National Park and the Engadine are natural jewels where Nature expresses itself in all its splendour. Rivers still flow freely, landscapes are wild, and wildlife is omnipresent. Set off in quest of the Grisons’ “Big Five +1”: bearded vulture, marmot, roe deer, ibex, red deer, and golden eagle. I have deliberately added the latter to the list, as it deserves its place there.

I will take you on a 4-day semi-itinerant hike in the Swiss National Park: 2 nights in a superb hotel in Zernez with a SPA, followed by 1 night in a mountain hut in the heart of the park for total immersion.

This hike is part of the theme «les sentiers francophones» and is organised in collaboration with «Terre&Nature».

Day 1 : First steps in the park. Arrival in Zernez in the late morning. After dropping off luggage at the hotel, we set off on our first immersion hike in the park. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon to enjoy the SPA and relax. Communal dinner.

Day 2 : In search of the “Big Five +1”. Early start for a long hike leading us to Munt la Schera and its superb alpine landscapes. Throughout the route, we will be on the lookout for members of the “Big Five +1” group. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon to enjoy the SPA. Communal dinner.

Day 3 : A night in the heart of the park. Departure for a 2-day itinerant hike with an overnight stay in the National Park’s unique hut: Chamanna Cluozza. The quest for the “Big Five +1” and magnificent landscapes continues. After an ascent through Swiss stone pines and mountain pines, and crossing a pass, we will reach our refuge. Communal dinner and overnight stay in the hut.

Day 4 : Return via the wild high plateaus. Final hike through this preserved nature, featuring high-altitude forests, free-flowing rivers, and morainic landscapes typical of glaciers. Descent towards Zernez, followed by departure for the return journey in the afternoon.

  • This trip is suited to experienced mountain hikers comfortable with T2 trails (white-red-white markings) and without acrophobia. One of the hikes is rated T3 and includes a narrow passage along a steep slope.

  • Day 1: 8 km, 500 m ascent, 600 m descent, approx. 4 hours walking
  • Day 2: 15 km, 750 m ascent, 1100 m descent, approx. 7 hours walking
  • Day 3: 8 km, 900 m ascent, 800 m descent, approx. 5 hours walking
  • Day 4: 8 km, 400 m ascent, 800 m descent, approx. 4 hours walking
  • Good physical fitness required.

• Meeting place and time:
  • At the hotel by 10:45 at the latest. The train arrives in Zernez at 10:28.
• Remarks:
  • Please indicate your dinner preference (omnivore or vegetarian) and any food allergies when registering.
  • Depending on group composition, a solo registrant may be accommodated in a single room (supplement payable by them).
  • A detailed equipment list will be sent after registration. This list is for guidance.
  • Despite all care taken to ensure everyone’s safety, mountain activities involve a residual risk which the participant accepts.
