The carried hikes
The carried hikes are aimed at toddlers who are still young enough to be carried – generally aged 0 to 2 – and their parents who want to go hiking in the mountains with their child.
Who is it for?
- for novice parent-carriers, with an introductory pack of 3 hikes (up to a maximum of 3 children)
- for experienced parent-carriers, with a variety of tours (up to 4 children max)
Each child is accompanied by one or two parents and carried along the entire route. These walks are not designed for children who are already walking.
The introductory pack offers a gradual approach, with hikes that are more varied, longer and more “technical”, so that everyone can build up their confidence step by step.
Framing
I’m a mountain leader, not a babywearing instructor. I don’t teach you carrying techniques on the carried hikes. There’s nothing better than a workshop with a qualified babywearing instructor. That said, I’ve gained a lot of experience of babywearing with my own son, so I’ll help you consolidate your carrying method, adjust your posture, improve your equipment and make sure you don’t forget anything essential.
My role is to ensure the safety, organisation and cohesion of the group.
Each child is under the direct responsibility of his or her parents throughout the tour, in particular for :
- carrying the child;
- clothing and heat management;
- meals;
- managing nappies;
- sun protection.
The child is carried using a carrying system (baby carrier, child carrier, sling, ringsling, etc.). Pushchairs are not permitted, even on easy paths.
Prerequisites
Parent-carriers must master the basics of babywearing before taking part. It is therefore essential to have attended a workshop with a qualified babywearing instructor, so that you are familiar with the different techniques and comfortable with the equipment used.
Depending on their experience, parents can start with the introductory pack or go straight to the hikes for experienced parent-carriers.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss the formula best suited to your situation.
Pace and breaks
There will be regular breaks along the way to feed the children.
However, it is not possible to stop at every moment to feed the children one by one. We will therefore try, as far as possible, to group breaks together to meet everyone’s needs.
A good practice is to feed your child just before departure, for example on the train or bus on the way to the meeting point. Cela permet de commencer la randonnée sereinement, sans avoir à s’arrêter dès les premiers mètres
Equipment
The detailed equipment will be sent to you after registration. In the meantime, here are a few indications.
For kids:
- clothing suited to the weather conditions;
- sun protection (hat, glasses, …);
- sufficient food (breast milk, bottles, solids, water, etc.);
- nappies and spare equipment;
- a comfortable, adapted carrying system.
For parents:
