Discovering Val Surses on Snowshoes – 1-4 April 2027

Winter is here, and so is the snow. Treat yourself to a nature break around Bivio, in the Val Surses in Switzerland. Strap on your snowshoes and join me for four days of hiking in this pristine region.

Day by day, let yourself be guided along carefully chosen routes, away from the beaten track. These hikes invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy the snow.

Keep your eyes open: footprints in the snow reveal the discreet presence of local wildlife. Can you guess which animal passed by here?

And after all that effort, it’s time to relax: every evening, return to the cosy comfort of a comfortable hotel, ideal for unwinding, enjoying a delicious meal and prolonging the pleasure of your adventure.

Why do we use an avalanche transceiver?

When snowshoeing, we travel on unsecured routes. Unlike ski slopes, snowshoe trails – even marked ones – are mostly not secured against avalanches. Marked trails are generally chosen to minimise this risk. Unmarked routes, however, are classified according to a rating (WT1 to WT6) based on the terrain; rescue equipment in case of an avalanche is not necessary for the first level (WT1). Depending on the chosen route, it will therefore be necessary – or not – to bring this equipment, which consists of an avalanche transceiver, a probe, and a shovel.

Let me reassure you: as a Mountain leader, I select my routes with the utmost care. I analyse weather reports and the avalanche bulletin daily to choose the safest paths. Safety remains my absolute priority. Safety remains my absolute priority.

The avalanche transceiver is therefore not a sign of imminent danger, but a precautionary measure that allows us to evolve on snowy terrain – much like a helmet when cycling.

  • 3 nights in a hotel in a twin/double room with half-board.

  • Travel between your home and the start/end of the hike.

• Equipement
  • Appropriate snowshoeing equipment for off-trail excursions (example). The list of materials will be provided after registration.
  • Avalanche transceiver/probe/shovel kit – possibility to rent from me depending on available stock.
• Remarks:

  • Depending on the group composition, a person registering alone may be accommodated in a single room; the supplement will be at their own expense.
  • Snow conditions, weather, and avalanche situation may require adjustments to the itinerary.
  • Despite all care taken to ensure everyone’s safety, mountain activities involve a residual risk which the participant accepts.
